Process of a Painting: deepening the background

I deepened the background with a glaze of watery blue-black. It had the effect I was hoping for, but I think I'll go back later and pull out a few colored shapes. Hair is looking better with deeper shadows and some lighter highlights. Next I'll paint in the jacket and piggy...have to dig up my other resource photo...er....

Process of a Painting: color matching

Painted the hair yesterday and touched up the face. I didn't save and of the skin tone, so I'm having a tough time matching the color...argh...frustrating! Also I think the hair could pop more from the background. Today I'm going to tone down the background with a transparent cool glaze and add some shadows. We'll see....

Process of a painting: the face

Larger, less intense shapes in the background. Now it's less busy and hopefully won't compete with the figure. Painted the face today. So far I like it, although it doesn't look exactly like my daughter. Looking forward to the hair. Curls should be fun!

Happy Shack pt. 8

Sorry it's been awhile. Life and all that...But I've started working on Happy Shack again and will try to have more frequent updates. I'm way ahead in my journal, and lemme tell you...it's getting good! So here's the next installment. I recommend rereading the previous sections to get back into the story (just click on the Happy Shack tag on the bottom of the post).

There were more people at The Pools than normal. Bodies crowded right up to the edges of the large dry basins. Bodies draped over heating pipes that snaked up from the floor and pierced the plastered walls. Walls once wrapped in gilded ivy and fluttering cupids, now gray and furred with dust like so much fruit long forgotten. The ever-present glitchers teetered through the masses looking for anything they could swallow, smoke or inject. Anything to silence the whine of the city.

Making a painting: Carving out a studio space.

Step one...
Gather the materials. Some stuff is from school. 50 dollars for 4 tubes of fancy paint. M Graham was on sale for 40 % off. Just got the primaries! Found a place to paint in the office/hide junk room.

My last pot

Riding the wave of the future!

Just got my first smartphone. Wondering how things will go from here. Like a meteoright crashing into the sea, I'm hoping it will create waves of creativity. Hang 10 folks!
